Accessibility
What we aim for on this website and at our events, where we currently fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
Draft page. Test against real assistive technology and update the known-issues list before publishing this. Everything in square brackets is a placeholder.

Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. That is the standard most public bodies work to, and it is a reasonable floor for a site anyone might need to use.
What we have done
- Every page works with the keyboard alone, and the focused element is always visibly outlined.
- Headings, lists, and landmarks are marked up properly, so screen readers can navigate the structure.
- Text contrast meets or exceeds the 4.5:1 ratio, in both light and dark colour schemes.
- Text resizes to 200% without breaking the layout, and the site reflows to narrow screens.
- No information is carried by colour alone, and no text is baked into images.
- Form errors are announced, tied to the field they describe, and clear as soon as they are fixed.
- Animation is minimal, and what there is respects the reduced-motion setting in your operating system.
- The site works with JavaScript switched off; scripts only add convenience, such as the time zone converter.
Known problems
[Replace this list with the results of a real audit. Be specific: naming a problem you have not yet fixed is more useful to a disabled visitor than a general promise.]
- [For example: PDF documents linked from the awards page are not tagged for screen readers.]
- [For example: recordings of past lectures are not yet captioned.]
Events
Chapter venues are step-free and have accessible toilets. Tell us at least [number] days before an event if you need a hearing loop, live captioning, reserved seating, a personal assistant place at no charge, or anything else, and we will arrange it. Ask about a venue’s specifics rather than assuming; we would rather answer a question than have you stay home.
Online lectures are run with [automatic or human] captions.
Tell us about a problem
If something here is difficult or impossible to use, write to sigmaxisd@gmail.com. Describe what you were trying to do and what got in the way, and mention any assistive technology you use. We reply within 5 working days and will tell you what we can fix and when.
If you need something from this site in another format, ask and we will send it.
