Nearly everything the chapter spends goes to students: research grants, science fair prizes, and travel to present their work.

The form below is a preview of how giving would look through Zeffy, a fundraising platform that charges nonprofits no fees. Nothing here takes payment. No card details are collected, no money moves, and the button does nothing. We are showing the layout so the committee can agree it before anything is switched on.

Where the money goes
The chapter is run entirely by volunteers. No one is paid, and there is no office to keep. Almost every dollar reaches a student.
- Research grants toward materials, field costs, and publication charges.
- Travel support so students can present their own work at conferences.
- Science fair prizes for research quality and for explaining it clearly.
- Public lectures, which are free to attend and always will be.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes, in the United States. The San Diego chapter is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation, EIN [number]. Gifts are deductible to the extent allowed by law, and you will receive a written receipt by email.
Where a gift includes goods or services in return — a banquet ticket, for example — only the amount above the value of what you receive is deductible, and the receipt will say so.
Donors outside the United States should assume their gift is not deductible in their own country. Some employers match charitable gifts; ask yours, and we will supply whatever paperwork they need.
Other ways to give
Cheques can be posted to the address on the contact page. For gifts of stock, donor-advised funds, or a bequest, write to the treasurer first so we can tell you where to send it.
Why Zeffy
Zeffy passes no platform or card fees to the chapter, so a gift of USD 50 arrives as USD 50. It funds itself by inviting donors to add an optional contribution at checkout, shown as its own line. We have set that to nothing by default, so it is added only if a donor chooses to. Either way the chapter receives the full donation.
