Who we are and what this covers

This website, sigmaxisd.org, is run by the Sigma Xi San Diego Chapter (“the chapter”, “we”, “us”), a volunteer-run local chapter of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. By using the site you agree to these terms and to our privacy notice. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. These terms apply to everyone who visits, wherever in the world they are.

Using the site

You may read, link to, print, and share the content of this site for personal, educational, and non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:

• use the site in any way that breaks the law of the United States, the State of California, or the country you are in;
• send spam, automated submissions, or false information through our forms;
• attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its administration area, or the systems it runs on;
• copy the site, or substantial parts of it, for commercial use without our written permission;
• use the site to harass, threaten, or defame anyone.

The chapter’s code of conduct applies to our events and to any interaction with chapter members through this site.

Content and intellectual property

Text, photographs, and design on this site are © Sigma Xi San Diego Chapter or the people credited, and are used with their permission. Recipes in the chapter cookbook are the work of the members credited on each page. Icons and other third-party material are used under their respective licences, as noted in the page footer.

“Sigma Xi” and the Sigma Xi logo are trademarks of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, used by this chapter with permission. This is the website of the San Diego chapter and is not the official website of the Society; nothing here is a statement by, or on behalf of, the national organisation.

If you believe content on this site infringes your copyright, email sigmaxisd@gmail.com with the details and we will respond promptly.

Your submissions

When you send us something through a form (a message, an event suggestion, a recipe, a photograph), you confirm that you have the right to share it and you give the chapter permission to use it for chapter purposes, including publishing it on this site with credit to you where appropriate. You keep ownership of it, and you can ask us to remove it at any time. We may edit submissions for length and clarity, and we are not obliged to publish anything.

Personal information you provide is handled as described in the privacy notice, which forms part of these terms. In short: we use it only to keep in touch with you about the chapter, and we never sell or share it.

Events, membership, and donations

Event listings, including the “Around San Diego” selection, are provided for information. Events run by other organisations are their responsibility; check their own pages for dates, prices, and conditions before relying on them. Membership in Sigma Xi is governed by the Society’s bylaws and policies, not by this site. Donations to the chapter, where offered, are subject to the terms shown on the donation page at the time you give.

Links to other sites

We link to other organisations’ websites and social media for your convenience. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices. A link is not an endorsement.

No warranties, and limits on our liability

This site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We try to keep it accurate and running, but we make no promises that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of harmful components, and we may change or remove content at any time without notice.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the chapter, its officers, and its volunteers are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site or anything linked from it. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including under consumer protection law in your country, and nothing here limits your statutory rights.

Accessibility and conduct

We aim to make this site usable by everyone; see our accessibility statement for how to tell us if something is in your way. Our code of conduct describes the behaviour we expect at chapter events and in chapter spaces.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and the United States of America, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in San Diego County, California, except that if you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you the right to bring a claim in your own courts, nothing here takes that away. Before any formal step, please write to us; almost everything can be sorted out with an email.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. The current version always lives at sigmaxisd.org/terms/.
