On September 22, 2026, the newly formed Sigma Xi San Diego Chapter President’s Advisory Council (PAC) gathered for an informal meet-and-greet and pizza party—and what a fantastic start it was! Ten PAC members, three new Sigma Xi members, and four guests came together for an evening of great conversation, good food, and lots of enthusiasm about revitalizing and growing the San Diego Chapter. With backgrounds spanning science, technology, education, and the arts, the group brought an impressive range of experience, ideas, and energy to the table. Special thanks go to Steve Rosen and Bobbi Baur for organizing the evening.
Over pizza, salad, and drinks, everyone had the opportunity to introduce themselves, share a little about their background, and talk about how they might contribute to making the San Diego Chapter active, engaging, and valuable to the community.
Although this was definitely a social gathering—not an official PAC meeting!—the ideas started flowing quickly. Topics included renewed involvement in Science Fair judging, future Open Houses, member profiles for the chapter website, and new ways to connect scientists, students, educators, and the broader San Diego community. One particularly fun idea was a Sigma Xi San Diego Cookbook with Chemistry, bringing together science, food, creativity, and outreach.
Most importantly, the evening was about making connections, sharing ideas, and building momentum. Judging by the enthusiasm in the room, the San Diego Chapter is off to an exciting new beginning!
